SMASH Gallery of Modern Art presents

OPENING FRIDAY February 1st @8PM

SMASH Gallery of Modern Art kicks off our amazing 2013 show calendar on February 1st, with the much anticipated first Vancouver solo show by Seattle painter and Smash favourite Kellie Talbot: "AMERICAN LANDSCAPES".

Since Kellie Talbot’s first solo exhibition in Seattle in 2004 “INDUSTRY”, her hyper-realistic oil paintings have revolved around the landscape of American artifacts and craftsmanship, pulling inspiration from long neglected neon signs, architecture, cemeteries and other emblems of society, with an eye to the natural decay that occurs.

The rust, erosion and degeneration represented in her works are more a recognition of he passage of time and changing cultural values than symbols of fatalism; rather they are created as an elegy to hope. Beauty in decay; a comment on progress earned over time with commitment.

Born in Hawaii, the daughter of a career marine, Kellie Talbot honed her skills working in a print shop, as a sign painter and as a graphic designer. Kellie is a legend in the snowboard industry, being the Art Director for Signal Snowboards since it’s inception in 2003.

She lives in Ballard, Washington with her husband, John, a cat and a duck named Gus.

Kellie Talbot’s “AMERICAN LANDSCAPES” at SMASH Gallery of Modern Art opens February 1st, 2013 and runs to March 2nd, 2013.
