During his travels, Hanscom's art practice moved away  from sculpture based work to primarily mixed media drawings on paper and board as well as large scale resin based paintings on wood box frames.

Artist Jay Hanscom grew up in BC, his childhood spent wandering the woods, catching frogs and tadpoles and hanging out in his father's workshop. Those early days where a time of exploration for the young artist that lead him to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. Jay Hanscom began his schooling at Langara College, with a focus on welded steel sculpture and etching, and finished his degree at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, with a major in sculpture and drawing. After graduation, Jay's wandering spirit returned and he's spent the last few years travelling and working in and around Western Canada, before settling on Vancouver Island.
